The story of Job’s wife is a familiar narrative for many of us raised in the Christian tradition. We often know her as the woman who, in the midst of profound loss, urged her husband, Job, to curse God and die—a figure who, in the traditional interpretation, serves as a cautionary symbol of despair and faithlessness. But what if this portrayal is incomplete? What if, beneath her words and actions, there lies a deeper understanding—one that mirrors struggles familiar to many of us, struggles with which I, too, am intimately acquainted?
My name is Tanya Cormier, and I am Bryce’s wife. Much like Job’s wife, I have weathered trials that have tested not only my faith but also the very foundations of my relationship with God. I have been judged—misunderstood by those who have witnessed only fragments of my story. And like Job’s wife, I have wrestled with the agonizing question of why suffering is permitted, not only in my own life but also in the lives of our children.
In "Don't Judge Job’s Wife", I invite you into my own journey of pain, loss, and profound disorientation, a journey that has led me to see Job's wife in a new light. Through this lens, I have come to understand her, and by extension, many other women and men—perhaps even you—who have endured similar trials.
This book is an exploration of suffering from a deeply personal perspective, a meditation on the strength that
often lies dormant within us in our darkest moments, the compassion we may discover toward others when we understand their struggles, and the quiet but undeniable glory that can emerge "after this".
Whether you are in the midst of grief, loss, confusion, or uncertainty, my hope is that this book will provide you not only with insight into the experience of suffering; but also with the courage to acknowledge the grace that can unfold from it.
"Don’t Judge Job’s Wife" is an invitation to look beyond surface judgments and to see the full, human depth of those who walk through the fire.
